Did you know that there is a special subset of the Dollar Tree website called the Dollar Tree Value Seekers Club? It is a useful resource for anyone who ever shops at the dollar store (especially people who stop in at least once a week). The Value Seekers Club offers crafts, recipes, and money saving tips using items that can be found at the dollar store.
One of the current Value Seekers Club projects is a recipe for Witch’s Finger Cookies. I knew my kids would like helping me make and then eat these Halloween treats. Since the ingredients can be found at Dollar Tree, it made for an inexpensive weekend project with the kids.
This Value Seekers project, like many of them, is very child-friendly. I was able to involve both my 5 year old and my 3 year old in the project. I sometimes get stressed having to wrangle both kids during creative projects, but this was simple enough that we were all able to work together happily.
Whoops. Because I let the dough get too warm before baking, they turned out more like steamrolled pickles than witch fingers. While the cookies were still warm from the oven I used my spatula to smoosh the sides in until the cookies were once again finger shaped.
The spatula smooshing actually made the fingers look even more wrinkled and witch-like! I really like the effect it had and would probably do the same thing when making these again.
