Make Dollar Store Robin’s Eggs for Spring

This is a fun and easy project for Spring that can easily be accomplished by or with little kids.  I originally shared this post with Dollar Store Crafts a LONG time ago, but the idea is as good now as it was then… if I do say so myself.  All you need are some craft paints and small eggs from the dollar store, and you can create dozens of realistic faux robin’s eggs!

To make Faux Robin’s Eggs, you will need:

craft paints in blue and black

paintbrush

foam eggs

toothbrush or small paintbrush

Begin by painting each foam egg a light blue.  You can use the hanging strings to hold the eggs as you paint or pull out the strings and stick a toothpick in each egg.

NOTE:  Don’t try to spray paint foam eggs.  The spray paint may react with the styrofoam and eat away at it!

Let the blue paint dry and remove the strings, if you haven’t already.

Put the eggs into a cardboard box and dip a small paintbrush or toothbrush into thinned out black paint.  Flick spatters of paint onto the eggs, rolling them around in the box to cover all sides.  The kids will love this part!

After the paint spatters have dried, you have realistic looking robin’s eggs that can be used as vase filler, wreath embellishments, or anywhere your home needs a touch of Spring!
