Earlier today, I shared my Pottery Barn Inspired Bronze Owls as part of the 15 minute craft series hosted by The Country Chic Cottage and Moore Craft Time. All week they are featuring great crafts that you can create in 15 minutes or less!
This quick project is also inspired by Pottery Barn’s fall catalog. You might even have the supplies on hand already!
PB is selling pillar candles wrapped in burlap and painted gold. They are a gorgeous, rustic but glamorous touch to your autumn décor. I figured I could create a similar look quickly and less expensively.
To make Pottery Barn Inspired Gold Burlap Candles, you will need:
pillar candles
burlap
hair dryer or heat tool
gold craft paint
Lay the burlap flat down on a table. Place your candle onto the burlap at the very top of the fabric.
Aim your blow dryer or heat tool on the candle. When the outside JUST begins to melt, start rolling the candle in the burlap.
Continue rolling the candle in the fabric and heating it with the blow dryer. The pressure of rolling the candle will cause the burlap to create an impression in the softened candle wax.
Once you have rolled the candle all the way around, peel the burlap off of the candle. The softened wax will have taken on the impression of the burlap.
You can experiment with different styles of candles and different heat settings because these factors will change how deep the the burlap makes an impression the wax.
I just rubbed the gold paint onto the candles with my finger. The paint will gather in the impressions of the burlap and skim over the raised parts of the wax. This will highlight the texture even more and well as give it a nice shimmer.
I really like the rough texture of the burlap combined with the elegant gold shimmer. It is a fun contrast.
In a short amount of time, you can make several golden burlap candles to add to your home this fall! Remember to check out all the great projects that are part of Craft Lightning this week!
