The old becomes new: Easily refresh your living room with customized throw pillow covers from the dollar store!
If you have ever seen a budding tree in Spring, you have seen that singular color that just screams SPRING! The vivacious, fresh shade of green that’s not acid green, not chartreuse, not lime, mint, or sage. Spring Green.
When I found zippered throw pillow covers at Dollar Tree, I was ecstatic. When I saw that some of them were in that very same green, I knew exactly how I would use them!
I freehanded a faux bois pattern on the NON-shiny side of a piece of freezer paper.
I used an Exacto knife to cut out a simple stencil and then ironed the freezer paper shiny side down onto the pillow cover.
I used a mixture of Martha Stewart Fabric Medium and her pearl white craft paint and pounced it on over the stencil.
While the paint was still wet, I pulled up the stencil to reveal my subtle faux pattern.
The finished result (with one of my two new Target-by-way-of-Goodwill lamps in the background).
The insert in the faux bois pillow is probably slightly too small for the cover, but I used the standard throw pillows that came with our couch to stuff the aqua pillow and the green pillow seen in the next picture. They fill out the covers perfectly.
I used a Martha Stewart stencil to put a wide stripe of pattern down the middle of the other green pillow. I found the doily pillow cover at Goodwill too. I have had great luck there recently!
Since I only stenciled one side of each of the green pillows, I can always flip them over if I get tired of the patterns.
Just the simple addition of an aqua throw and my new throw pillows, and my living room looks MUCH lighter and fresher. It is a pretty fantastic improvement considering it cost me a total of $3!
