    mad in crafts summer wreath

Now that the weather is cooperating here in the Midwest, I can start to work on some outdoor projects again.  Up till last week, I have had to be satisfied just putting together ideas in my Front Porch and Deck pinboard.

I am aiming to use one of these two color palettes from Design Seeds for my outdoor spaces.  Do you have a preference?

If you haven’t already discovered Design Seeds, I am warning you that you will be sucked into the site on your first visit.  I don’t start new projects anymore without hitting up Design Seeds for color inspiration first.

The easiest way to add color to the front porch is to update my front porch wreath.  I swapped out my stashbusting argyle wreath with a new simple summer wreath.

    button and ribbon yoyos

All I did was wrap a Dollar Tree wreath form with twine (also from DT).  While my son was in the tub, I whipped up a few quick ribbon yoyo flowers and embellished them with buttons from the stash I just inherited when my parents moved.

If you weren’t lucky enough to inherit a stash of buttons or if you need some ribbon to match your summer color scheme, hit up Michael’s ASAP!  Michael’s frequently has ribbon in $1 bins around the store, and if you click on the ad on my sidebar you get an additional percentage off.  Nice, right?

I am hoping to get my flower boxes planted in the next week or two.  I am kind of a doofus when it comes to growing flowers.  Do you have advice for creating foolproof planters?
